Compared to conventional carbon-based filters, Swift green filter products are environmentally friendly. Conventional carbon filters are produced by a burning process called open pit charring which releases pollution and greenhouse gas emissions into the air. Green Filter components are produced with a new technology that carbonizes dried coconut shells in an enclosed self-sustaining system while capturing and converting the emissions into useful thermal energy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a replacemet for 5231JA2006B as advertised, November 29, 2011
This review is from: Swift Green Filters SGF-LA50 Refrigerator Water Filter (Tools & Home Improvement)
Swift Greenfilters advertises this as a replacement to the LG filter 5231JA2006B as well as several others. Although it mechanically fits just perfectly (i.e. the plastic extertior is the same), it is not a 5231JA2006B replacement. It is a replacement to the inferior LG filter 5231JA2006A and possibly similar inferior filters.

The Swift SFG-LA50 and the 5231JA2006A meet standard NFS/ANSI 42 for reduction of chlorine, taste, odor, and class 1 particulates. However, the 5231JA2006B also meets standard NSF/ANSI 53 for the reduction of microbial cysts (harmful microbes such as giardia and cryptosporidium), turbidity (suspended solids), heavy metals lead and mercury, and industrial/agricultrial/pharmaceutical chemical pollutants including lindane, atrazine, 2,4-D (2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid), and benzene.

I suggest purchasing the orginal LG 5231JA2006B which currently on Amazon is actually cheaper than the Swift SFG-LA50.
