"Life Could Be a Dream" by SCR (Street Corner Renaissance) is an acapella CD of the finest kind.

The songs performed, weave their way through Doo-Wop, Gospel, R&B, and Soul; spanning some 36 years from The Chords' "Sh-Boom" to Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean".

SCR - Five grown men who can sing! I hope their "Life Could Be a Dream" CD will be the first of many.

Make sure to check them out.

Reclaiming the innocence of the past with new passion, the a cappella ensemble Street Corner Renaissance's LIFE COULD BE A DREAM, is just that... a dream! Group founder, Maurice Kitchen, successful insurance professional, quit his job and joined forces with Torre Brannon Reese (community youth advocate), Kwame Alexander (minister), Tony Snead (legal assistant) and Sonny Banks (transportation worker). "I just didn't want to die, a claims adjuster." The only claim Maurice is making these days is, "We've closed the generation gap for vibrant Baby Boomers who dare to dream the impossible dream yet again." Together they have created their unique style of Doo Wop, R&B and Jazz. LIFE COULD BE A DREAM is a feel-good album featuring 17 songs with a special guest appearance from Wally Rocker (bass singer from The Heartbeats). From the title track (also known as "Sh-boom"), "Hit the Road Jack," and "Earth Angel" to more contemporary songs like "Billy Jean" and "Love Train," to the Gospel anthems... Read more

This review is from: Brit Awards 2012 (Audio CD)
"Brit Awards 2012" contains some of the more recent hits on three cds (sixty-one songs). The music genres on this collection run that gamut from pop to rock. The first two cds contain more recent hits and the third cd contains musical tracks that are "classics".The following is a sampler of what is on this fun three cd set:
      The first two cds:
      "Someone Like You" by Adele
"Glad You Came" by The Wanted
"What Makes You Beautiful" by One Direction
      "Rope" by The Foo Fighters
      Cd Three:
      "Sweet Dreams" by The Eurythmics
      "Wonderwall" by The Oasis
"West End Girls" by The Pet Shop Boys
"Englishman In New York" by Sting
"Save A Prayer" by Duran Duran
"2 Become 1" by Spice Girls
"Brit Awards 2012" is worthwhile to get for anyone who enjoys hearing a collection that contains some of the latest hits and good musical tracks from the past.

Trilok Gurtu and Simon Phillips have long wanted to make music together. And they did so in May 2010. These two leading drummers worked together within the framework of an NDR Bigband production. Arranged by Wolf Kerschek, directed by Jörg Achim Keller and supported by Michel Alibo on double bass and Roland Cabezas on guitar, this collaboration with the NDR Bigband was musical enjoyment of the highest magnitude.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Big Band Genre is Reborn!! Eastern Fusion, May 5, 2011

A fiery fusion of a big band, with Eastern influences and killer musicianship, led by the rhythm master Trilok Gurtu. I'd love to know who all the musicians are because the solos CRUSH IT. Bassist is UNREAL, Simon is in the zone, and the composotions are killer. This CD transforms the big band genre. If you enjoyed the Jaco Pastorius Big Band, THIS is the album that SHOULD have been. Amazing. Outstanding.

Imagine Shakti with a big band and you may come close.

        Outstanding!

This CD is full of wonderful music reminiscent of the Weather Report/Jaco Pastorius Big Band sound. This is tight, world music arranged and played at a very high level. The Indian percussive and vocal influences that Trilok Gurtu brings blends wonderfully with Simon Phillips on drums, and the German NDR Big Band. This CD is a mix of studio and live cuts. The torch has been passed, and these musicians have picked it up admirably. Highly recommended.

I'm mystified as to why Daniel Goyone was not involved in this project, or credited on the music.
His contributions to the originals for "1-2 Beaucoup" "21 Spices" had to be significant. In any case,
I just wanted to give a shout out to Daniel. He provided the melody that transformed the Crazy Saints
line-up into something special. In a way, this album is just a tribute to the best work that band did.

The album is worthwhile as a new take on some great old songs. And the recording quality is very high.
So it is worthwhile, and it's good for Simon Phillips to raise the profile of this songbook.

On the other hand, I think if you pull together the original albums, you will find that they actually
have a lot more energy and pace than the Big Band here does. Pick up copies of Usfret/Living Magic/
Crazy Saints/Believe. Or if you just want one album, get Bad Habits Die Hard. The Crazy Saints band
was a band that made a mark... Read more
