| 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful By This review is from: Jazz Giant / Swingin in the 20s / Sax Ala Carter (Audio CD) Benny Carter was a major contributor to the development of jazz, through his playing, which created a definitive alto sax style, his composing, arranging and lecturing, and he was highly regarded for his urbane nature which was reflected in his approach to jazz.This 2-CD set comprises four albums from the late fifties/early sixties, all recorded in Los Angeles, where Benny had settled in 1942, and is a must for the stellar line-ups involved. "Jazz Giant" dates from 1957/8, and is one of his best small-group albums. It features Ben Webster on tenor sax, Frank Rosolino on trombone, André Previn on piano but for Jimmy Rowles on tracks 2 & 3, Barney Kessel on guitar, Leroy Vinnegar on bass and Shelly Manne on drums. Benny plays trumpet on "I'm Coming Virginia" and "A Walkin' Thing".
